Publishing: Thameside Media was set up in 2007 by Mike and Rosalyn Ellis. Both directors began their careers in publishing in the early 1990s, and have worked in-house and as subcontractors for many publishing houses, including Macmillan, Oxford University Press, Pearson, Lund Humphries, the Consumers' Association, Pavilion and HarperCollins.
New Media: As the wider media industry evolves, with increasing crossover between sectors, we actively keep abreast of new technology and media platforms to ensure that our skills are always relevant to the current market. In the past, most of our work was destined for print, while today many of our projects are for digital media or multiple platforms. Here are just a few sample projects from our back catalogue.
Past Projects
Blue Guide: India
Client: Blue Guides / Somerset Books
Thameside's role on this title was to edit the copy, produce page layouts to fit the scale of the book, and produce the mapping, plans and line drawings to illustrate and illuminate the guide.
Travel guides
Client: DK (Pearson)
We helped develop the style and tone of two series: Real City and Top 10 guides, and commissioned and produced numerous titles for our long-time client, Dorling Kindersley.
Food and drink guides
Clients: HarperCollins, DK (Pearson)
As well as our award-winning World Whisky project, we've produced several whisky titles for Collins and DK's Eyewitness series, and we've revised Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion. We have also produced guides on wine and beer.
Business Secrets
Client: HarperCollins
We've produced 18 titles in this series, which is aimed at young business people, often in overseas markets. The books offer straightforward advice and are published in print and digital formats.
The Londoner's Diary series
Our own imprint
Between 2002 and 2008 we produced the annual Londoner's Diary. The diary included photographs and anecdotes about London life and its histories, mixed with useful information about events and travel.
Apps and digital formats
Various clients + own brand
In 2007 we published London: City of Words, a neighbourhood guide to literary London. In 2010 we turned the material into an iPhone app with geo-tagging to make use of Google maps. We also wireframed the Betjeman book for its app.
